Stiffness Degradation under Cyclic Loading Using Three-Point Bending of Hybridised Carbon/Glass Fibres with a Polyamide 6,6 Nanofibre Interlayer

The stiffness degradation of hybrid carbon/glass fibre composites are investigated under cyclic loading in three-point bending. compared to toughened interlayered with PA 6,6 nanofibre (veil) and a matrix 5% rubber particulate. With the incorporation veil into hybridised composite, interface experienced extensive localised delamination, due crack deflection, causing longitudinal cracking between interface. It is observed that delamination was redirected reduced by interlayering, bridging as cracks propagated. carbon particulate showed similar retention after 1,000,000 cycles. interlayering within improved 66.87% for flexural modulus, laminates. In both glass samples, 10-fold increase fatigue life, untoughened controls. from failure mechanics acted randomly orientated layer, rather than toughener.
